DRD’s Roberto Murillo went on KESQ TV to discuss our Basketball Developmental Program coming up at the Boys & Girls Club in Mecca. This program will introduce players to the fundamentals and rules of basketball. We will be having a free demo that will give you a taste of what to expect in the program on August 18th at 7:30pm at Mecca Community Park.
DRD’s Scott Sear went on KESQ to discuss the Ready, Set, Swim Jr. Scholarship, which offers free swim lessons to those who qualify. We thank First 5 Riverside County Children & Families Commission for partnering with us on this program. Scott also discuss our Cooling Center locations.
Our Adaptive Programming was featured on KESQ. Reporter Bailey Arredondo KESQ visited a variety of the Adaptive activities that we have going on this summer and offered a glimpse into the close community that exists around our Adaptive Programming.
DRD’s Krysten Baluga went on KESQ to discuss upcoming activities at our Palm Desert Community Center including Intro to Dance and Drumming, Chess and the upcoming Pickleball Tournament.

KESQ did a segment on the open house event at the Cathedral City High School Pool. Cathedral City Mayor Rita Lamb and friend’s jumped into the pool to celebrate it’s opening for the season in partnership with Desert Recreation District. DRD’s Manny Marrujo went on KESQ TV to discuss our Summer Youth Basketball League. The mandatory draft days for the league are coming tomorrow (5/12) and Saturday (5/13). We are also looking for volunteer coaches, so reach out to Manny at our Indio Community Center if you are interested.
Desert Recreation Foundation Board member John Henry Garcia went on KESQ TV to discuss our upcoming EVENING AT THE OASIS dueling pianos event. This free event is May 20 at Palm Desert Civic Center Amphitheater – join us for great music and a fun interactive experience featuring music from J’s Dueling Pianos from Dallas, Texas all while supporting our Foundation!
DRD’s Maureen Archuleta went on KESQ tv to talk about open positions that we have for lifeguards. She also discussed our partnership with First 5 Riverside County Children & Families Commission, which will allow us to offer free swim lessons for preschoolers (Eighteen months to Five years old).
DRD’s Manny Marrujo went on KESQ TV to discuss our upcoming Eggstravaganza events, many of which will happen this Saturday. He also discussed our Youth Sports Academy, which occurs during Spring Break and gives campers the opportunity to stay active and have fun.
DRD’s Karina Rodriguez went on KESQ to discuss our Prom Dress Giveaways. The first event is coming up on March 10th at our Mecca Community Center. The dresses, shoes and accessories are all free and we thank Desert Best Friend’s Closet, for being our partner for this event.
DRD’s Kyle Pleming appeared on KESQ TV to discuss job openings for lifeguards. We have our Lifeguard Workshop coming up on March 6th. This is a free class that will get you on the road to lifeguard qualification. If you are sixteen or older and looking for a fun, outdoorsy job, come to our free workshop and learn all about being a lifeguard for DRD.

While some parents are not able to stay home with their children for distance learning, Desert Recreation District offers their ED-REC CONNECT program to help families in the Coachella Valley that need a place for their children during the workday.
