Healthy Living Tips
Tips to help shed those extra pounds
1. Eat breakfast! Skipping this meal is the biggest mistake a dieter can make. With our hectic lifestyles, this is about the only meal we can really plan. If this meal is skipped, we are ravenous by the time lunch comes around and we can eat everything in sight! Sticking to a breakfast rich in protein with a serving of fruit can equip us with energy to start the day and kick off the metabolic process.
2. Eat snacks! Snacking is the best way to keep energy up and to keep metabolism going. But, the smart snacks are important. Nuts offer a great protein/energy yield, but avoid going overboard as this can result in weight gain. A healthy handful is good enough. Stay clear of the salted nuts as these can result in bloating and water retention. Opt for the snacks of nature such as carrot sticks, celery, grapes or berries. Little healthy snacks will keep you from crashing and keep you from binging during lunch and dinner.
3. Eat simple! When choosing foods for your main meals, simplest is best. The meals with the least amount of ingredients are often healthier and offer less calories. Choose a simple salad with a vinaigrette dressing or a whole wheat sandwich with fresh veggies and/or non-processed meats.
4. Eat green! Always be sure that you eat more vegetables than protein, fats or carbohydrates. Starting with the veggie part of your meal will fill you up enough so you don’t eat too much of a heavier calorie option on the plate.
5. Don’t forget about what you drink! Many folks fail to recognize that calories come in all shapes and sizes... and fluids! No going around this one: STOP the POP. These are chock full of calories with zero nutritional value. Watch out for those cute cocktails too, some can host as much as 300 plus calories! A glass of red wine or a low calorie beer is a better alternative.
