The First Tee is an initiative of the World Golf Foundation. Its mission is to impact the lives of children by providing learning facilities and educational programs to promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. On January 14, 2008, The First Tee of the Coachella Valley celebrated its grand opening at what was then known as The Golf Center of Palm Desert. We are proud to offer this exciting program to the children of the Coachella Valley.
Our vision is to teach The First Tee Nine Core Values, providing the vehicle through which kids can accomplish their dreams, thrive socially, excel academically and athletically and become productive members of society with integrity, strong family values and a commitment to community.
The First Tee of the Coachella Valley Youth Golf Program
The First Tee can help your child have fun by learning a life-long sport along with important life skills. Programming is age- and competency-based, with kids demonstrating proficiency in learned golf skills and the related life skills curriculum. Each level of attainment is acknowledged through certification and the awarding of golf privileges.
Through collaborative partnerships, The First Tee Youth Golf Program is part of the physical education curriculum at all 14 elementary schools within the Coachella Valley Unified School District during the 2012-2013 school years and in select schools at the Desert Sands Unified School District. Since its inception, The First Tee program has taught more than 10,000 students the game of golf.

Using large, safe, plastic SNAG equipment (Starting New At Golf), The Little Linksters are introduced to the basic concepts of golf, while also being exposed to the life skills curriculum of The First Tee program. Ages 4-6. Registration is at the Pro Shop.
Regardless of age and experience, all new First Tee program participants ages 7 and up begin in a PLAYer class.
PLAYer 3: SNAG equipment is used, with the curriculum emphasizing learning the game through a series of creative and interactive activities on the golf course. The first three of the nine Core Values are introduced and reviewed for mastery. Recommended ages 7-8.
PLAYer 6: Students are introduced to the first six Core Values and asked to incorporate them while playing the game and when away from the golf course. PLAYer 6 begins to integrate real golf equipment into their class experience. Recommended ages 9-11.
PLAYer 9: Students are introduced to all nine Core Values and asked to incorporate them while playing the game and when away from the golf course. PLAYer 9 is designed for those who have had some moderate exposure to the game of golf. Real golf equipment is used exclusively in all classes. Recommended ages 12 and up.
Once students have completed the PLAYer levels, they are eligible for the PAR curriculum, which focuses on inter-personal skills and self-management. A minimum of two PAR sessions are required in order to certify into BIRDIE level.
