For ages 4 to 6, the Little Linkster is The First Tee program designed to introduce basic concepts of the game of golf to young children. Using large, safe plastic equipment, SNAG (Starting New at Golf ) equipment, young children have an opportunity to experience the beginnings of a life-long recreational game. Little Linkster sessions are a great way to grow into readiness for the life skills curriculum taught as part of the regular The First Tee program.

Player Levels

The PLAYer program is The First Tee’s introductory class level. Regardless of age and experience, all NEW participants ages 7 and up will begin in a PLAYer class.

PLAYer 3
Recommended for ages 7 – 8 exclusively utilizes the use of SNAG (Starting New at Golf ) equipment throughout the session. Emphasis is placed on learning the game through a series of creative and interactive activities on the golf course. The first 3 of the 9 core values are introduced and then reviewed in order to create an element of mastery of those values.

PLAYer 6
Recommended for ages 9 – 10 – 11, PLAYer 6 will introduce the first 6 core values to students. Participants will be asked to begin to incorporate these values while playing the game as well as to exhibit them in their lives away from the golf course. PLAYer 6 also begins to integrate real golf equipment into their class experience.

PLAYer 9
Recommended for ages 12 and up, PLAYer 9 is designed for participants who have had some moderate exposure to the game of golf. All nine core values are introduced and expected to be demonstrated throughout the session. Real golf equipment is used exclusively for all classes of PLAYer 9

Youth Golf Program

The First Tee is an initiative of the World Golf Foundation. Its mission is to impact the lives of children by providing learning facilities and educational programs to promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. On January 14, 2008, The First Tee of the Coachella Valley celebrated its grand opening at what was then known as The Golf Center of Palm Desert. We are proud to offer this exciting program to the children of the Coachella Valley!

History
Although there are Chapters in cities and communities across the country and in most major golf communities, the Coachella Valley Chapter of The First Tee was born through the work of the Desert Recreation District to bring The First Tee Chapter to the valley. Beginning with an introduction and impetus to explore the national program from Bob Spiegel, Palm Desert city councilman, the Desert Recreation District began the application process in 2007. Notification came from The First Tee home office in the spring of 2007 that The First Tee Chapter had been awarded to The District with an opening set for the beginning of 2008.

Desert Recreation Foundation
The First Tee of the Coachella Valley is supported by Desert Recreation Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt non-profit organization. The Foundation is a non-profit organization established to support the Desert Recreation District. It actively seeks to enhance the valley’s environment and park and recreation projects through private and corporate support. What’s more, the Foundation offers financial assistance to those who may otherwise be unable to participate in recreation programs.

Monetary donations and donations of golf equipment are always appreciated and are tax-deductible. The Foundation welcomes your tax-deductible donations including cash, endowments, trusts, and corporate sponsorships.

The First Tee Program

The First Tee program provides opportunities for participants to demonstrate proficiency in the attainment of golf skills and the related life skills curriculum. The Little Linkster program begins at age 4 to 6 and from there to the PLAYer level and then progresses through PAR, BIRDIE, EAGLE and ACE levels of proficiency. Each level of attainment is acknowledged through certification and the awarding of golf privileges.

In addition, through a partnership with the Coachella Valley Unified School District, The First Tee program through The First Tee National School Program will be a part of the physical education curriculum at fourteen CVUSD elementary schools during the 2011 – 2012 school years. Since the inception of The First Tee program we have had over 1100 students go through the program!

The First Tee can help your children learn important life skills that will assist them in every aspect of their lives, both on and off the golf course. PLAYer, PAR, BIRDIE, EAGLE and ACE are the various levels of The First Tee program.
