New Breakfast with Santa

Enjoy the Holiday tradition of having breakfast with Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, the Gingerbread Man, and the Elves. There will be crafts, games, cookie decorating and a yummy pancake breakfast for all to enjoy. The children will be able to talk to Santa, share their Christmas wishes, and take a picture with him.

Parents please bring your own camera.

Southern California Yo-Yo Championships

Yo Yo ChampionshipJoin us at the River in Rancho Mirage, Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Register onsite beginning at 9 a.m. This event is free and for all ages. Come participate and watch some of the top yo-yo professionals in the world. Participate and win awards, prizes and giveaways throughout the day. Divisions from beginner to expert. Traditional rules by AYYA. The first 150 guests will receive a free yo-yo.

Two levels of competition will be held at the 2011 Yo-Yo Championships of Southern California:

• Championship Freestyle competition for expert level players.
• Age group Sports Ladder competition for beginners through advanced level players.

The contestants will attempt to complete as many tricks as possible on two parallel trick lists. The1S ladder tricks are primarily sleeping or string tricks while the 2S ladder tricks are primarily looping tricks.

Eggstravanganza

You won’t have to “hunt” for the best Easter Egg hunt in the valley. Just grab your Easter basket and head to one hosted by Desert Recreation District in a location near you. Of course, the Easter Bunny himself will be paying a visit, and fun activities like face painting, potato sack races, a hula hoop contest and more are sure to get you and your entire family hoppin!

Children are divided by age group for hunting. Each age group will have a chance to  nd eggs. Only one parent per child for the infant through 4 year old
age categories may enter the hunt area. Hunt registration starts at 10:00 am

The hunt will be divided up in to age groups:

0 to 4 years old: one parent allowed in Egg Hunt Area
5 to 7 years old: no parents allowed in Egg Hunt Area

Paper Airplanes

Up, up and away! The whole family will love this exciting class. Young kids learn ways to fold different types of paper airplanes and how to launch them. Older “kids-at-heart” will enjoy creating balsa wood or rubber band flyers. At the end of each class will be contests such as the most creative design, the longest flight, and the best landing. This class is offered by the District and partners with the Coachella Valley Radio Control Club. Club members will demonstrate an Electric Remote Flyer and show you how it works. Making and flying paper airplanes is great fun. Come fly with us!

Tiny Tot Olympics

Want to watch local little ones involved in some good-natured athletic play?

Desert Recreation District is hosting the First Annual Tiny Tot Olympics. The event features children 3 to 5 years old who are enrolled in the Tiny Tot program. Children will compete in events such as basketball toss, hula hoop, obstacle courses and soccer dribble. There are no scores, just an afternoon  filled with fun and everyone goes home a winner.

Soap Box Derby Rally Race
