ROC - Recreation Outdoor Adventures

Finding outdoor adventures has never been easier! THE ROC offers a unique opportunity to explore the great outdoors through a variety of activities with experienced professionals guiding your adventure. Whether we tour a new location, observe and track wildlife, or photograph nature; THE ROC will bring the outdoors to you!

General Information: Our staff will be happy to provide snacks and water, and take all pictures. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch and water bottle, dress in comfortable shoes and light clothing, unless stated other-wise for the activity. DESERT WAKE SUNSET RANCH OASIS

Desert Wake’s lake sits on 16 acres in Mecca, giving participants a new found love for outdoor activities right here in the Coachella Valley. Activities include lessons on kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and sailing. Professional instructors will teach proper techniques for these exploratory sports to ensure summer fun on the lake. The Ranch’s sandy beach is 300 feet long with shade structures — perfect for lunch and some down time by the water. This adventure is close to home and has something for everyone!

ROBINHOOD ARCHERY & SWIMMING
at PALM DESERT AQUATICS CENTER

Archery is a unique sport with plenty of challenge and reward. Skilled professionals teach you everything they need to know about Olympic-style archery. You’ll be slinging arrows like the pros! Archery instills confidence, hand-eye coordination, greater attention spans, and bragging rights. After a morning of games and archery challenges, we’ll take you to cool off at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center, where you can spring off diving boards or play in the kid zone with water cannons and slides. What better way to spend the day?
BASIC SAILING at THE MISSION BAY AQUATIC CENTER

June 26 – 28 (3-day package)

The ROC will introduce you to sailing in a simple single-handed boat at the Mission Bay Aquatics Center in San Diego. Our adventure takes us on a three day tour of instruction, skill building and, yes, sailing your own boat. Mission Bay Aquatic Center has experienced professionals that will teach you what you need to know about boat-handling, basic seamanship, and navigation. Bring your sunscreen and a swimming suit! ROCK CLIMBING at HANGAR 18, RIVERSIDE
July 3

Hanger 18 offers 12,000 square feet of indoor textured climbing features with a massive free-standing boulder and top out sections that tower 20 feet tall! Hangar 18’s professionals will teach you about safety gear, proper knots and techniques that will guide you to the top. This one day trip has limited space so don’t miss out. See you at the top.
DAY AT THE BEACH, MISSION BEACH SAN DIEGO

When you think of summer, you think of the beach and that is exactly where we are headed. One of the best places in San Diego to soak up the city’s beach lifestyle is Mission Beach where participants can enjoy building sand castles, playing a game of volleyball, and flying kites along the shore.
REDONDO SURF CAMP
July 10 – 12 (3-day package)

Summer is here and the surf is up! It’s time to catch a wave and live the beach life. Redondo Surf Camp will teach you how to catch a wave. Paddling with the surfboard, body boarding, body surfing and getting up on a wave is guaranteed! Surf Camp includes all types of beach activities and water safety. We will travel to and from the surf camp each day so you can get a good night’s rest in your own bed. Pack lots of sunscreen and food.
JUNGLE ISLAND PAINTBALL PARK
Fridays: June 22, July 20, August 4, August 25

Fridays just got a bit more exciting with a trip to Jungle Island Paintball Park for a day of paintballing! You will battle on a variety of paintball fields using various game styles. This trip is for our older camper and is sure to be exciting. All the equipment is included with the registration fee. Participants will need to bring pants, long sleeve shirt and extra clothes to change into.
SUMMER BLOWOUT
August 21 – 24 ( 3-day package)

Summer Blowout is 3 amazing trips to 2 different amusement locations in one week. End the summer with a bang! We will take you to the local Knott’s Soak City twice and Knott’s Berry Farm once to enjoy water slides and rollercoasters! Come and enjoy the end of summer like never before. Fee includes admission and lunch to both Knott’s Soak City and Knott’s Berry Farm.

Fred Young Kids Club

Kid’s Club offers opportunities to grow through physical fitness, art, and character-building activities. This program will enhance self-esteem, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and community involvement. The fundamental objective of this Kid’s Club is to encourage youth to take a pro-active role toward leading healthy and active lifestyles.

* Youth who attend this program must live at Fred Young Labor Center or be referred by the Desert Sands Unified School District Student Assistance Program.

School's Out For Summer Campout

Let’s celebrate the last day of school with an all-nighter! Check in at the La Quinta Community Center Park between 3 and 6 pm to enjoy a night filled with family, friends, fun, games, star gazing, and yummy food. Included in your fee will be a BBQ hotdog dinner, S’mores over the campfire, and a chocolate chip pancake breakfast the next morning. You can bring a sleeping bag and sleep under the stars, or set up a tent and make your own camp area. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Round up your friends and family, and let’s celebrate summer vacation!

Your days will be filled with exciting adventures, education, friends and fun sure to interest both new and returning Campers. Our enthusiastic Team Members will lead Campers in a variety of exciting activities from themed games, creative arts and sports. They will learn new skills and build self-esteem through individual and group activities. All activities are carried out under the watchful eye of our Camp Staff. Leaders in Training (LIT)

Leaders In Training (LIT) programs allow participants to explore various leadership styles through in-class, practical experience where youth assist instruction. Regular meetings and workshops will be held to focus on leadership skills, community awareness, character development, life skills, field trips to colleges, and much more! This Leaders In Training program is designed to help high school age youth realize their leadership potential and develop skills to become major contributors to the success of our summer camp.
