Strategic Plan
The Desert Recreation District has engaged the services of GreenPlay LLC, a nationally renowned and innovative parks and recreation management consulting firm to assist with the creation of our Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan.
This Strategic Plan is designed to:
- Define community issues in the Coachella Valley and the value of parks and recreation services in addressing those issues;
- Identify the District’s role and core services;
- Identify potential or perceived duplication in services;
- Recommend collaborative approaches and alternative provision strategies;
- Determine resource allocation strategies;
- Reaffirm or refine the District's mission;
- Provide the future strategic direction for the District.
The strategic planning process the District is undertaking is designed to strengthen our relationships, enhance our partnerships and help us meet the future needs of the Desert Recreation District residents; those residents in the District's Sphere of Influence; and for those who work and visit the Coachella Valley. The project includes assessing the DRD parks and recreation service offerings in relation to the values, vision, and needs of our community, as well as our position in the market while considering what other agencies are providing, to help reaffirm or refine the District’s mission.
The Strategic Plan will focus on short and long‐term implementation strategies that enhance the District’s service delivery by efficiently and effectively utilizing the community’s investment and leveraging our resources for critical parks and recreation needs. The strategic planning will begin the District’s effort to align available and future resources with core services and commitments; to address the community's desired level of service; to continue and improve upon sustainable fiscal and environmental stewardship; and to implement industry best practices in operating and maintaining the District’s infrastructure. The process will produce a systematic implementation plan to ensure the District is moving in the right direction to collaboratively meet the needs of the community.
